People always seem to have a fear that the planet will be destroyed by an asteroid headed toward earth.
Of course, this has never happened but depending on what you believe about how things like dinosaurs went extinct or not – there might be some truth behind it!
Personally, I don’t think we have to be concerned about being wiped out by an asteroid because we can detect incoming objects before they hit us…but who knows? I’m open-minded and willing to accept the facts if I’m wrong, but I believe the evidence points toward a cataclysmic flood.
However, we often hear about an asteroid that just barely missed earth or an asteroid that we didn’t even know about that was headed for us until after it had passed. Thankfully we have a planet like Jupiter that is basically the asteroid eater that protects our planet. But now experts are saying that there is a pair of asteroids that are actually headed towards our planet and could cause some damage.
The U.S. space agency plans to conduct a mission next month to deflect a pair of asteroids far out in deep space to keep them from threatening Earth.
Dubbed the DART Mission, or the Double Asteroid Redirection Test, the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) will send spacecraft to a pair of asteroids – the Didymos binary – on November 24 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
If all goes as planned, DART will smash into one of the two asteroids, known as Didymoon, at roughly 13,500 mph nearly a full year later, on October 2, 2022.
Didymoon is more than 500 feet wide and orbits a much larger space rock known as Didymos, which is five times as big.
I don’t believe that humanity will ever be wiped out by an asteroid because I don’t believe that the scriptures allow for that to be a possibility. I don’t think that God ever states that all of humanity will be killed off. Maybe it’s because it never would be even if we left things alone, or that it wouldn’t happen because we now have the technology to stop it from happening.
Either way, I can rest assured that we’ll be alright.
