Leo Terrell, a civil rights attorney ripped on Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris for taking the time to visit the two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies who had both been shot in the face during an ambush attack over the weekend.
On Tuesday, Terrell made an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” with host Sean Hannity where he said that Harris, who made a hospital visit to Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, should have visited the deputies from her own home state. She said to reporters that the Blake family were wonderful people, even though the father is a blatant anti-Semite and racist follower of Louis FaraKLAN.
Terrell and host Sean Hannity started by talking about out-of-control protesters, looters, and rioters.
“What do you think of these agitators? They’ve not been held accountable,” Hannity asked Terrell. “We always have these high-profile incidents, Ferguson, Baltimore, all the videotape, all the people involved in crime and we never arrest them, we never follow through. Well that’s all stupid to me.”
Terrell went on to explain that many of the protest-related arrests were what he called “token arrests” and said that protests for people akin to Jacob Blake, who was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer on August 23 during a domestic dispute call when he was at a house he was not supposed to be, weren’t altering the fact that some “polls are leaning in favor of Donald Trump.”
“Let me tell you one other point,” he added. “Kamala Harris, you should be ashamed of yourself. If you went to Jacob Blake’s family’s house, go to those officers’ houses right now and feel sympathetic for those two officers who got shot and ambushed. It’s outrageous that Kamala Harris has not responded and she’s a senator from California.”
As of this writing, Kamala Harris has not yet visited either of the deputies, and unless she catches heat from a lot of Democrats, she won’t. Democrats react to polls rather that doing what’s right.
Terrell isn’t the only one calling Harris on the carpet. On Sunday, former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) shamed Harris by saying that she ought to absolutely pay a visit to the two deputies.
The former governor took to social media to point out her lack of consistency.
“Will @kamalaharris visit deputies who were shot (31-year-old mom & 24 year-old) in her state? She visited someone in WI who was charged with felony 3rd-degree sexual assault and said she was proud of him.
She and @JoeBiden need to side with law enforcement and denounce radicals,” Walker’s tweet concluded.”
Blake’s lawyer, Benjamin Crump, said that Harris just recently visited Blake.
While visiting, Harris told Blake that she was “proud of him and how he is working through his pain.” This is a man who was violating a protection order by being at the house, resisted police when they tried to arrest him knowing he had a warrant out for his arrest when they got on the scene, and then broke free from police and walked around his vehicle, disobeying police lawful orders to stop and reached inside his SUV for something. He later admitted he had a knife on the floorboard of the driver side of the vehicle.
“Sen. Harris has an inspirational and uplifting one-hour visit with Jacob Blake, Jr., and his family today. She spoke individually with each family member about how they were handling the trauma and urged them to take care of their physical and mental health,” Crump read from a statement.
“In a moving moment, Jacob Jr. told Sen. Harris that he was proud of her, and the senator told Jacob that she was also proud of him and how he is working through his pain,” the statement continued.
The statement also revealed that Harris promised Blake that she and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden would work to “make things better for all Americans” if they are elected with the Justice in Policing Act and what she referred to as “implicit bias training.” This is why Harris is such a bad choice for vice president on the Democratic ticket. Everything that happened to Jacob Blake was brought on by Jacob Blake. He didn’t have to go to the house where he was forbidden to go by law, he didn’t have to resist arrest and break free from police, he didn’t have to disobey lawful orders by police to stop as he went to the driver’s side of the vehicle and began reaching for something. There was no bias in policing there. The police acted on their training. Harris’ words did nothing more than to fan the flames of lies about police officers across the country.
