Usually, like-minded politicians sign-off on policy questions and various agenda items. However, for that strategy to work, it must rely on open lines of communication. Liberals are notorious for running off half-baked with pieces of their radical agenda.

Conservatives are more likely to maintain open talking channels. Nevertheless, that isn’t the case when a member of the Republican Party seems to have a proclivity to cutting deals behind his fellow conservatives’ backs.

Such an incident happened recently in the U.S. Senate. Chad Meredith was to be nominated for the U.S. District Court vacancy in Kentucky’s Eastern District. Meredith’s nomination was part of a deal Republicans made with the White House, but it had not been finalized.

While this seems like a noble effort, Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell didn’t find it necessary to communicate this agreement with other members of his party. One senator left out of the loop was fellow Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.

In a statement, Paul said, “Unfortunately, instead of communicating and lining up support for him, Senator McConnell chose to cut a secret deal with the White House that fell apart.” Initially, Meredith had Paul’s complete support.

Nevertheless, out of principle, Paul chose to kill Meredith’s nomination. It’s not that Paul doesn’t support the conservative judge’s nomination. Nonetheless, he’s fed up with Mitch McConnell going behind other party members’ backs to cut deals with the Joe Biden White House.

Paul chastised McConnell for making a “secret deal.” Paul further said, “We have no reason to be opposed to Chad Meredith, other than we want at least the courtesy of the minority leader, thinking that he’s not so important that he doesn’t have to talk to his fellow state senator.”

McConnell returned fire at Senator Paul. The minority leader feels this allowed Democrats and the White House to “catch a break.” McConnell said, “The net result of this is it has prevented me from getting my kind of judge out of a liberal Democrat president.”

But is that all that came out of Rand Paul’s stance? There may still be avenues to get a conservative judge through the confirmation process. However, it might require Mitch McConnell to be open and upfront with his fellow conservatives.

That might be a welcome change from Mitch’s inclination to pacify the progressive left. Republicans need to make a collective stance against the radical agenda of the progressive left. Secret deals with the White House are not the way to accomplish that. They need transparency.

  • Now there is a good laugh. Beijing Mitch being open and transparent. I’ll keep repeating. The voters need to vote all their RINO’s out of office, and if one doesn’t have the inclination, McCarthy and Beijing Mitch are working along with the rest of the RINO’s and liberal commie Democrats to deny Trump from running for a 2nd term, McCarthy and Beijing Mitch have no intentions of impeaching Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe.

    • I too am against RINOS but keep in mind if a RINO is nominated by the GOP he or she is most definitely to be supported and voted for over any Democrat. The reason for this is it is a numbers game in the House of Representatives and Senate, that is to say choosing a majority leader in the Senate and Speaker of the House in the House of Representatives as well as all committee chairs are selected by the Party they belong in.

    • Out of all the Established GOP “leaders” in congress (both houses) only Steve Scalise has any cred with me—but McConnell and McCarthy stand alone at the pinnacle of disgust, revulsion, disdain & corruption. As a staunch supporter of a new beginning for the GOP it MUST START with ALL NEW UNCORRUPTED PROVEN CONSTITUTIONAL CONSERVATIVES at the controls—only THEN will I open MY PURSE to once again help the party—for now, the GOP IS DEAD TO ME—only THE DONALD HAS THE WOUNDS, SCARS, BRAINS, WISDOM AND CREDS TO
      BE BELIEVED AND FOLLOWED!!!

  • McConnel is not to be trusted. I still don’t understand how he got elected as the minority leader. I do give him credit for keeping Garland off the Supreme court, but that’s not enough.

  • If the Democrats agreed on this ! It is because he is a RINO! That will be part of the big swamp! We just went through 80 of this kind of judge that didn’t want the people checking what they did! We don’t need another Democrat brainwashed judge!

  • I agree with James Henry James. If there was a deal cut, that guy is probably a RINO and will give crappy results like head justice Roberts. Unreliable as far as really following the constitution.

  • mitch mcconnell is NOT a republican and he certainly isn’t a conservative. Mitch should retire NOW. Good bye mitch!

  • McConnell has to go. He needs to retire. These long time, old politicians, get too chummy with the opposite party, and especially with this administration that is destroying the lives of Americans. Retirement should be mandated just like we get forced out of our jobs at a certain age.

  • Ran Paul is absolutely correct in his decision . Even though Senator Mitch McConnell has done a lot for the State of KY he is still a RINO .
It is really possible, he doesn’t care about the country ?
Or is it really possible, he is only interested in himself, his healthcare benefits, Retirement, other perks, etc. ?
